ILLUMINATE your workout

We are in year two of incorporating HappyLights® into our classes and sessions here at Harmony and I couldn’t be happier with the results!

Last year we started by picking out a few early morning classes to incorporate using the lights and now they are a requested staple used in all of our session. Our studio administrator Laura even keeps one in the office!

THE PROBLEM
If you suffer from a lack of energy, feel low and find your motivation waning, you may be suffering from Winter Blues. The Winter Blues are real! It is a condition caused by the seasonal changes in the amount of available sunlight we are exposed to each day and living in Chicago we all know about a lack of sunlight!

THE SOLUTION – How Does It Work?
The light box gives off full spectrum lighting that mimics the natural outdoor light spectrum. Light therapy is thought to alter your circadian rhythms and suppress your body’s natural release of melatonin. Using the light helps regulate and recalibrate the body’s natural cycles to improve focus, concentration and productivity. All of this resulting in a reduction or control of the symptoms associated with the Winter Blues and other conditions. It’s science people, it works!

THE TESTIMONIAL
Independent of all of the big words above, I now have a year of using the lights under my belt and can speak from experience. The best way I can describe my experience to people is this:

I can now recall multiple times when I have taught for four hours in the morning, and have been sitting working at my desk for another four hours in the afternoon. I look at the clock to see how much time I have before my evening teaching shift will begin and I realize that I have made it to 3pm! Better yet, I’m not tired, I’m not burned out, I’m not looking for a snack or another Starbucks run and it amazes me. Don’t get me wrong, I still have my low-energy days, but now I have equal amounts in the summer as I do in the Winter as opposed to getting to January and wondering why everyday feels like a struggle.

THE SUMMARY
It’s such a small, easy thing to add to your life, and I really do believe that if used consistently can make a very big difference. Some Harmony clients have even bought lights to keep at home as well (do let us know if you’re interested, I have done my research and can give you a million reasons to buy a Verilux light instead of any other brand.)

We have all read the articles about how to combat the side effects of a rough, cold winter and how to stay motivated and energized when the holidays have gone and yet the Winter continues.
